Back from Hiatus (Kinda)
It's been a long 3 months, and I feel like I've come a long way learning about drawing! Yet at the same time I still have so much to learn. For context, I had zero drawing skills when I decided to start drawing at the beginning of this year, my only previous art experience is with 3D modeling. I don't have any drawings worth posting as of this post, mostly because most of what I've done has been copying and studying other artists, experiments, and simple sketches, etc. But I wanted to give some sort of update after 3 months. The first thing I'd like to say is that I think I'll be sticking drawing for the foreseeable future. I like drawing, it's fun! It was a refreshing experience to try something new and now it's something I feel like I'd like to stick with. 3D has always been fun too, but I now see that it is quite labor and time-intensive for what I wanted to make, and it is better suited to things like animations or games for that reason. Additionally, the reason I chose 3 months as a "time limit" for myself is from a video that I saw by Naoki Saitou, where he claims that anyone can get good at drawing in 3 months if they work hard enough. I felt like his claim was a bit exaggerated, because his story is that he was painting monsters for years and changed to drawing characters within 3 months. So that is quite different from going from no drawing skills to good in 3 months. But regardless, I am grateful to the video for motivating me to work hard and believe in myself. And by now it feels like the pieces are starting to come together despite the fact that I still have a long ways to go. I believe that I am starting to come to a point where I know what I want to draw and how I want to draw it, and I will be able to start posting drawings soon. They won't be masterpieces by any means, but I feel like it's better to post something rather than nothing at all :) I think that's about all I have to say for now, see you then!
